Practice Nurses
The Practice Nurses offer the following services
Anti-coagulation monitoring- Taking blood for tests
- Infant and adult immunisation
- Dressings and removal of stitches
- Ear syringing
- Blood pressure monitoring and chronic disease management, including coronary heart disease, asthma, COPD (chronic bronchitis)
- Holiday / travel vaccinations.
They also assist the doctors in minor surgery and are always available to offer professional advice in person or over the phone. They also assess the following conditions:
Earache - Sore throats (but not coughs)
- Sickness and diarrhoea
- Conjunctivitis (but not painful eyes or reduced vision)
- Rashes
- Vaginal discharge
- Nail infections
- Contraception
- Warts/verrucas
- Hay fever
- Insect bites
- Cystitis
- Thrush
- Boils
Health Care Assistants
Their tasks include:
- Taking blood for tests
- Anti-coagulation monitoring
- ECG readings
- Blood pressure readings
- Flu immunisation
- Smoking cessation
- New patient checks
- Spirometry
- NHS Health Checks
Their role does not include offering professional advice. This should always be done through our general practitioners or practice nursing staff.
