The surgery offers an advanced access appointment system, which means that most appointments are offered on the day.
We still offer pre-bookable appointments up to three weeks' in advance; however if you request a pre-bookable appointment for the following day it is unlikely that they would be available and you would be requested to book a same-day appointment.
As a result of offering more on-the-day appointments, there is always increased pressure on our phone lines early in the morning, especially Mondays. Please bear this in mind.
To make an appointment please telephone 01325 316637 from 8.00 am or call at Reception from 8.15 am.
When asking for an appointment, your request will be dealt with by a care navigator. The care navigator will ask you to share some information about the reason for your call. If you are happy to do so, this will help the care navigator make sure you get the right care, in the right place as soon as possible. Apart from offering a Doctors' appointment, the care navigator may suggest
- A consultation at a local pharmacy
- A consultation at a local opticians
- A referral to the Wellbeing for Life service
- A referral to Citizens Advice (Healthier and Wealthier Service)
- A consultation at a local sexual health or contraceptive clinic
- A referral to Stop Smoking County Durham.
They may also offer
- An appointment with our practice nurses or nurse practitioner
- An appointment with a health care assistant
- An appointment with our clinical pharmacist.

Apart from face to face appointments, we also offer telephone consultations. Many health issues can be addressed usefully via a telephone consultation with a clinician. This can be particularly useful for people who work. We can deal with medication reviews or queries regarding your medication, results and general health advice.
If you are absent from work due to sickness, remember you can self-certify your illness by completing an SC1 form available from your employer for the first week of illness. A Doctor's fit for work note is only required after that time. Return to work notes can usually be organised by a care navigator and without using a Doctors' appointment.
