Practice Nurses

The Practice Nurses offer the following services

  • asthma_inhalerAnti-coagulation monitoring
  • Taking blood for tests
  • Infant and adult immunisation
  • Dressings and removal of stitches
  • Ear syringing
  • Blood pressure monitoring and chronic disease management, including coronary heart disease, asthma, COPD (chronic bronchitis)
  • Holiday / travel vaccinations.

They also assist the doctors in minor surgery and are always available to offer professional advice in person or over the phone. They also assess the following conditions:

  • Sore throats (but not coughs)
  • Sickness and diarrhoea 
  • Conjunctivitis (but not painful eyes or reduced vision)
  • Rashes
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Nail infections
  • Contraception
  • Warts/verrucas
  • Hay fever
  • Insect bites
  • Cystitis
  • Thrush
  • Boils

Health Care Assistants

  • Taking blood for tests

  • ECG readings
  • Blood pressure readings
  • Flu immunisation
  • Smoking cessation
  • New patient checks
  • Spirometry
  • NHS Health Checks

Their role does not include offering professional advice. This should always be done through our general practitioners or practice nursing staff.
