Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Mrs Sue Cook
Chair of the Patient Participation Group
Message from the Chair of our PPG
"Hi, I’m Sue Cooke, the Chair of the Patient Participation Group. I have been a patient at the surgery since 2015 and I joined the PPG so that I could contribute to influencing and improving health care services in our area, and to lend my support to Bewick Crescent Surgery. I worked for Durham County Council Education Department and have been an exam invigilator at a local school".
Patient Participation Group
Bewick’s Patient Participation Group is made up of local people of differing ages, from a diverse range of backgrounds; our meetings are lively and if you feel you could offer something to the Group, please join the waiting list. We tend to meet quarterly, on a Tuesday afternoon between 16:00 - 18:00hrs.
The group would like to contact patients on occasion by email and/or text so that they can obtain the views of the widest group of patients possible. We would like to obtain your email address and mobile phone number to do this.
Staff members currently on the group include Dr C Stephenson (Senior Partner), Nurse C Kavanagh (Nurse Practitioner) and Mr S Lucas (Practice Manager).
You asked; we did...
November 2018. As patient demand for appointments increased we recruited an additional two full-time advanced nurse practitioners to significantly increase same day appointments for patients in surgery and for home visits.
November 2019. Patients fedback to us that they were waiting too long in the telephone queue not to get an appointment. This was wasting their money on phone tarrifs and furthermore no success of getting an appointment. So we reduced the telephone queue from 50 to 30 and informed any new callers that no same-day appointments were left meaning patients are better informed.
March 2020. Patients fedback that they found it difficult to get an appointment. As patient demand for appointments increased we recruited an additional full-time Salaried GP.
March 2020 - to date. The surgery did not close it's doors and continued to deliver face-to-face appointments throughout the pandemic.
April 2021. The patient survey from February 2020 showed 74% of patients would prefer pre-bookable appointments with Doctors for up to 2 weeks in advance. This month, and as the demand from the pandemic eases, we changed our appointment model to offer this provision, but, at the sacrifice of less same day appointments.
